SPINDLE FITNESS — UX/UI CASE STUDY

Strengthening the workout experience

Spindle Fitness uses its own app to create custom programs and training sessions for each member. As a member of the gym and after using the app for some time now, I decided to re-imagine the user experience and interface based off my personal experiences and desired functionality.

Old vs. New Concept

By increasing contrast, adding colors, and separating each exercise from the background with exercise cards, we’re able to liven up the UI for a more enjoyable experience. It was important to consider the user experience of getting tips for a certain exercise a user might not be familiar with. The current experience takes you from the app to a YouTube page, but here we bring animated GIFs showcasing the key movements of the exercise while also allowing space for a written explanation of how to do the exercise properly. A simple question mark icon tucked into the top right corner of the card remains accessible for the user and also doesn’t intrude on valuable space for the exercise name the not expanded.

One of the most beneficial aspects of working out at Spindle Fitness is having access to a trainer who can adjust your workouts. Instead of communicating via email messages, we bring the chat experience inside the app making it easier to stay up to date. In addition, a more robust Profile and News page also give the app more purpose vs. being primarily used only as a workout companion. Here we’re able to see health and fitness data, view and edit membership details, and catch the latest news and announcements in one convenient place.
